Today the kids were doing a batch of grammar sheets for an indoor recess. When we came across abbreviations I realized the class had no idea what they were doing so I decided to do a quick 2 minute lesson. I write on the board... "LOL".
"Does everyone know what this is?"
"Yes"
"What does this mean when you see LOL?"
"Laughing out loud"
I then underline the first letter of every word
"OHhh they're the first letter of every word!"
"Right! Thumbs up if you can try the other activities on abbreviations?"
I get thumbs up from everyone.
The whispers among the kids:
"How does a teacher know about LOL?"
As dorky as it sounds, I felt pretty cool.
